Rubies and Sapphires Question: I am considering the purchase of a loose ruby and a loose sapphire for custom made pieces.
I’ve done a lot of research on quality, origin, treatments, etc. It’s a little overwhelming to say the least, but after all is said and done, my question is this: all other things being equal (sort of!) is the better ruby value in a heat treated Burmese, or an unheated one from anywhere else?
Likewise for sapphires, heated from Burma or Ceylon, or unheated from anywhere else?

gold ring Question: Hey how r u… I received a ring that was passed down to me from my grandfather.
It has a big oval ruby stone (birthstone i assume).
On the back of the gold setting it says PAT. 8,802,945
do u have any idea what that means?

Firstly don’t assume that a big (or small) red or reddish colored gemstone is a ruby. There are many colored gems – including glass – which it might be.
