Diamonds
Diamonds…
There is nothing quite like a Diamond.
It is the Hardest material (almost 140 times harder than its nearest gemstone) and is named after the Greek word ‘Adamas’ which means ‘Unconquerable’.
This is also why it is used in Engagement rings as it symbolizes ‘Everlasting’.
Unlike other gemstones, its primary perfection is based on LACK of color. The pure colorless or White is the most Valuable although many shades of Yellow are common.
Famous Diamonds sometimes are highly colored (known as ‘Fancy’ in the Trade) such as the bright Green Dresden Diamond or the Blue Hope Diamond in the Smithsonian Institute, Washington.
Only about 20% of Diamonds can be used in Jewelry and these are Valued by utilizing the 4 C’s of Colour, Cut, Clarity and Carat weight.
