Natural Aquamarine Color

October 03, 2007 By: admin Category: Gemological Appraisals No Comments →

Aquamarine color Question: I have fallen in love with the aquamarine gemstone.

Aquamarine and EmeraldsBeryl (Butterworths Gem Books)

$249.95 USD

I do not understand about the color and value, etc.

I bought a beautiful, 3 ct aquamarine & 1/3 ct diamond, 14k gold estate ring from a reputable online dealer. It is VSI clarity.

I’m disappointed that it is such a very pale blue hue, it seems to have almost no color, maybe silvery?

I think many people would not recognize it as an aquamarine.

I also bought the ring because the design is so unique–it has diamond “wings” on all sides.

Q. Are the most pale hues of less value?

Q. I was told it was “genuine.” Is it likely natural or could it be synthetic?

How does this affect value?

I estimate it is about 30-40 yrs. old.

I also have an antique Art Deco filigree 2 ct. light sky blue aquamarine ring that I’m crazy about.

Many thanks,

Pauline…

Ametrines And Their Price

July 23, 2007 By: admin Category: Gemological Appraisals No Comments →

Ametrines And Their Price Question: Hello David, I was wondering how much Ametrines are worth these days?

Quartz and Ametrine Gemstones

Quartz (Butterworths Gem Books)

Lowest used price: $67.00 USD

I have one which is 22 x 14mm in size, 27.48 Carat and out of curiosity I asked a Jeweler in town how much it would be worth.

When I gave her the specifications she said around $6000!

Is this true?

I’m finding it hard to believe!

Thank you :)

How To Sell Your Gemstones

July 19, 2007 By: admin Category: Gemological Appraisals 3 Comments →

How To Sell Your Gemstones Question: Hello, I recently inherited about 40 decent sized Emeralds (not the greatest) but not really low quality either.

Gemstone Values

Gemstones: Quality and Value, Volume 1

Price: $137.75 USD

About 20 star ruby’s as well in the same condition.

What is the range for these types of gem stones (low to high) and in your opinion what is the lowest price I should accept if I were to take these to a jeweler and sell them?

I know you can’t see them and I appreciate any “general” input you may have.

Thank you, Chad…
