Answer: G'day and many thanks for your query.
Do you mean a stamp 'pl' on the metal part of the jewelry or do you mean 'p1 (p with a one)' on the appraisal documentation or grading certificate?
If it is a stamp in the metal it could mean there is some Platinum in the ring (like the setting) OR it could simple be a design or model ID mark.
As I can't see it, you are going to have to take it to your local FRIENDLY jeweler and have them take a look at it.
If you are talking about a p1 in the diamond grading - it means the gemstone is graded as 'Pique1' which graded the inclusions (clarity) of the diamond.
You might like to look at our Diamond Gemstone eBook at:
http://www.golden-books.com/books/diamonds/
which will explain the grading, color and cuts of gemstones too. As it is only $7 bucks it is well worth having the information on your desktop for future reference.
You might also like to add this query to my blog at http://how2valuejewelry.com/ as other may have had a similar problem. Can't hurt anyway and who knows what answers you may get.
Hope this helps...

Flower Full of Legends Heather is the second most recognizable floral symbol of Scotland. This plant had many practical uses for thatching, dyes, ropes, brooms and more. It also treated cough, consumption, anxiety, arthritis, and rheumatism. It also made Heather Ale. The Picts made it for centuries with a secret recipe that did not require the use of malt, hops, or sweeteners. Archaeologists have found traces of a fermented drink containing heather on a 3000 year old pottery shard. Legend states that in the 4th century, Vikings defeated the Pictish army and cornered the King and his son…
