Rare Uncut Topaz
Rare Uncut Topaz Question: I have a rare 694 carat golden topaz uncut gem.
Gemstones of the World: Newly Revised & Expanded Third Edition
Price: $15.14 USD
It was found in the Colo. Mountains in 1967. I’d like to no how to go about finding out how much it is worth and maybe sell it.
I still have the article on it so I no what it was worth back then.
Please can you help me?
Answer: G’day Sandy and many thanks for your query.
First I should apologize for the delay in getting back to you. As you may know President Bush was here in Australia over the weekend for the APEC conference, so the Aussie Government (bless ‘em) gave everyone a long weekend break, so I went away for a couple of days and only just got back. Blame Bush - not me
The problem with being labeled an ‘Expert’ is that you can’t ‘know it all’ and this is one of those cases.
Most gemologist appraisers such as myself are limited to what is known as ‘Standard Calibrated sizes’ when it comes to gemstones. In other words we know the prices of the most common sizes and weight etc on the most common gemstones.
This does NOT fall into that area so we (as so called ‘experts’) would still have to Farm Out an opinion on a query like this to a geologist/ gemologist who deals and specializes in ‘Collectible Minerals’.
If you have the original details - start there and trace the firm or company who did the original valuation. If they can’t help you might like to get in touch with the GIA Gemological Institute of America (look in yellow pages for your nearest branch) and ask their help.
Sorry I can’t be of any further service in this. It is simply NOT something we see everyday.
You might also like to add this query to our Jewelry Forum where there are more ‘Experts’ to help you.
http://www.online-jewelry-appraisals.net/jewelry-forum/as other may have had a similar problem.
Can’t hurt anyway and who knows what answers you may get.
Hope this helps…

G’day John and many thanks for your feedback - it is much appreciated.
However - there is a demo on site together with a peek inside one of the software pages and a complete appraisal certificate for you to look at. Check the right sidebar.
If you are in the Jewelry Trade - we also have a complimentary trial appraisal for your to use and evaluate the system.
One other point - our Members site provides three jewelry appraisals and three loose gemstone lab reports each month - that’s a bargain.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards. David
